Practice Data Files
Compatible with AcaStat, Clarity, and StatCalc

AcaStat (.dcs) data files are provided for educational and research purposes. Some practice data files that are not available elsewhere are provided in a SPSS (.sav) compatible file. Click on the data links to download the compressed (zip) files. If you have access to SPSS, there is a module in the AcaStat data menu (Import SPSS Dictionary File) that explains how to export the SPSS data dictionary and data file for conversion to AcaStat.

General Social Survey (GSS)

The following GSS files include all variables in the GSS SPSS file. Verify data formatting and missing values settings in .dcs files by running AcaStat frequencies on selected variables. If formatting appears inconsistent, use the link to the SPSS data dictionary to verify data formatting and edit the format as needed. AcaStat allows 12 value labels (SPSS values beyond 12 are not imported). Use the Data/Split Large Data Files menu to create a subset of a larger file.

GSS 2018 — GSS2018AllVars.dcs

American National Election Survey (ANES)

The following ANES file includes all variables in the ANES PILOT 2018 SPSS file. Verify data formatting and missing values settings in .dcs files by running AcaStat frequencies on selected variables. City Managers — CityMgr.dcs
A random survey of city managers in cities 100,000 population or less in size. Formatted with variable and value labels. Cases (n) = 354; Variables=10; Codebook. City Manager data in SPSS.sav format.

AFQT — AFQT.dcs
Random subset from the National Longitudinal  Survey of Youth (NLSY). Formatted with variable and value labels. Cases (n) = 1000; Variables=5; Codebook. AFQT data in SPSS.sav format.

OMB PART 2005 — PARTFY05.dcs
Contains PART ratings, program types, and funding levels. Formatted with variable and value labels. Cases (n) = 398; Variables=13.
